The purpose of this website is to acquaint visitors with the history of the Grand Tour and to compare a portion of the Grand Tour experience today with that of the Gilded Age experience of the late 19th Century. The comparison will be made based on a trip by the Director of the Flagler Museum, traveling by cruise ship to the ancient sites of the eastern Mediterranean in August and September of 2000, as illustrated on the map shown on the Sites Visited Page.
